I live on the North York Moors, in a magical dale called Fryupdale, so when I started making bears they were made in Fryup! When I started crocheting my first successful piece was a little yellow bear and I have gone on from there to crochet just over 1,000 bears in the last twelve years. Nowadays all my bears are made with organic yarns which are GOTS ( Global Organic Trading Standards ) certified, to meet quite stringent safety regulations.

In 2025, encouraged by fellow Staithes artist Sarah Westwood, we had a photoshoot on the beach with some bears on deckchairs. This was the start of a range of cards 'Bears on the Beach' and 'Bears in the Garden'.

Since I have been in Staithes SAAC I have developed some different ranges, so now I make ammonites, inspired by local geology. They started small but soon grew into every size from little bag charms to big, comfy cushions.

I discovered some wonderful reclaimed cotton ( @Bobbiny Yarns ) which makes sturdy baskets and planters and the colour range is lovely.

My most recent experiments have resulted in some colourful project bags with wooden handles, crocheted with multicoloured yarns with zipped craft pouches to store crafty bits and pieces.

My bears and other woolly things are very happy to be in Staithes Arts and Crafts Centre!
