Caroline Welch

I feel so lucky to be able to live in this wonderful part of the world with the changing moods, textures and colours of the sea, moors, and forest all on our doorstep. I'm drawn to the weird, wonky, rusted and dilapidated and my work is inspired by the natural world, folklore, and pre-history.

Textile pieces are made from reclaimed, remnant and scrap bag materials, carefully selected and cut, printed, and stitched to make the most of the details.

My enamel pieces are hand cut from steel, sgraffitoed - scratch marks made into the layers of enamel - and then encouraged to rust. Each piece is fired in the kiln at least twice and the finished pieces are burnished and sealed with wax.
