Hello, my name is Jayne Thompson. At 18 I joined the Military where I served 22 years as an IT Engineer. I have always been keen on the outdoors and wildlife; volunteering with trusts and charities during my time with the military where possible; and doing various crafts during my spare time.
On leaving the military I wanted something very different for my life, I did some courses on smallholding and cheese-making and bought a spinning wheel.
I started knitting again; something I was terrible at as a child; and found this time I was much better and that I absolutely love it.
A friend prodded me to apply to sell at Staithes, so here I am and still loving my knitting. Everything I make is handknitted and therefore unique. I particularly enjoy knitting Fair-isle.
I also spin, crochet and weave.
My intention is to spin, dye and knit all my items from locally sourced fleece, at present I buy my wool and 99% of it is pure wool, alpaca, cotton or silk.
I live in Moorsholm, a little village on the moors with my husband Mark and Jack Russell Terrier Millie. I grow my own vegetables and keep chickens for their wonderful eggs. I make my own bread and cheese and preserve my own fruit and vegetables. I have found my good life in the beautiful moors of North Yorkshire, which inspire me every day.
I am happy to take orders on knitted items if there was something specific you would like.
